Thomas Carman was a Quaker of Hector Township, N.Y., the son of William and Phebe Carman of Scipio Monthly Meeting. In 1840 he married Margaret Williams, daughter of Obadiah and Ruth Williams. She died in 1875. In 1877 he married Catharine Williams (1810-1890), an elder in Hector Monthly Meeting (Orthodox) and Margaret's sister.
